The Multi-Method Data Laboratory for Conflict and Cooperation in Eastern Europe (DataLab)

The Multi-Method Data Laboratory for Conflict and Cooperation in Eastern Europe (DataLab) is an interdisciplinary platform that discusses and shares data and methods on the political, social, economic, and spatial dynamics of Eastern Europe since the end of the Cold War.

The DataLab focuses on four activities: data support, trainings, publications, and developing of two databases. It helps researchers in KonKoop for their research design, management of data, methods, and data analysis. It also provides Data Management Plan and guidelines for specific context and situation in the research field (e.g. how to use mixed-methods). The trainings consists of workshops and seminars for young researchers on methods and techniques in social and political sciences. The first database compiles available datasets and sources covering the region of Eastern Europe since the end of the Cold War. The second, Protest Event Data in Eastern Europe, aims to deepen our understanding of contemporary and historical societal dynamics across the regions while fostering critical engagement with the challenges and opportunities of this research approach. The DataLab also coordinates a Blog platform for engaging academic discussion on data and methods.
