Wars are not over when the last bullet is fired. As World War II and the wars in the former Yugoslavia have shown, they are often followed by extended periods of uncertainty or renewed conflict, negotiations, and reconstruction and recovery. The legacies of war have profound effects on individuals, society at large, institutions, the political system and international relations.
By drawing on different wars and post-war developments from a comparative perspective, we hope to gain a better understanding of what Russia’s war against Ukraine may bring for Ukraine, for Europe and for global politics. Oleksandr Zabirko (Berlin Brandenburg Academy of Science’s Young Network TransEurope) will join political scientist Josip Glaurdić (University of Luxembourg) and historian Anne Deighton (University of Oxford) in a discussion chaired by Gwendolyn Sasse (ZOiS). This event marks the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and will open the KonKoop closing conference on 25 February.
A detailed programme will follow in due course.
