The Anthropology and Social Movement Network, in cooperation with the LAP – Laboratoire d’Anthropologie Politique, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) of Paris, will hold a workshop on the themes “Social Movements and Citizenship” and « E. Isin and Political Anthropology ».
This event will take up a fundamental yet often underexamined concept in anthropology: citizenship. While widely addressed across the discipline, citizenship will be shown to have been treated unevenly across linguistic and academic contexts, and frequently approached through a shared—though rarely scrutinized—set of theoretical assumptions. In particular, the influential framework of Engin Isin and his notion of “acts of citizenship” will serve as a central point of departure.
Dr. Piotr Goldstein will contribute by presenting ‘Hunting for ‘Acts of Citizenship’ with a Camera: Reflections on six years of visual ethnography with (everyday) activists’.
