At the biannual EASA Conference in Belfast, following the theme ‘Transformation, Hope and the Commons’, Dr. Piotr Goldstein alongside Marion Naeser-Lather (University of Innsbruck) will convene the two-part panel ‘Times of crisis, times of hope? Movements and collaborations between transformative potential and reification [Anthropology and Social Movements Network]’. The panel will shed light on current activisms and movements and asks whether they have transformative potential, opening up spaces of opportunity for new visions of the future and ideas of the common, or whether they evolve into reifying previous and existing societal structures.
In the panel ‘Social and economic imaginaries from below: alternative production and consumption initiatives as democratic challenges’, Piotr will also present the paper ‘Spółdzielnia/Cooperative”: Using Visual Ethnography to Show Social and Economic Imaginaries from Below’ which is based on the experiences of making the eponymous ethnographic documentary “Spółdzielnia/Cooperative“. The paper will discuss the challenges of showing these imaginaries on film.
