With different formats, KonKoop and KoDaNetOst were present at XI ICCEES World Congress.
Tsypylma Darieva and Piotr Goldstein organised the panel „Disrupted linguascapes? Lived and contested East European and South Caucasian multilinguality” (22 July – 10:45) where Tsypylma – together with Yulia Aliyeva, ADA University Baku – and Piotr Goldstein presented results from the projects Ethno-religious Diversity between Regulation and Everyday Practice and Remembering and Practising Diversity in a Post-Multi-Ethnic City. Their papers showed the urban linguistic multilinguality in the South Caucasus despite homogenising politics in Azerbaijan, as well as the multilinguality and activism of the polish diaspora.
The roundtable „Reclaim the map: Maps and map making as critical resource to explore and understand disruptions in East Central Europe“ (24 July – 12:25) organized by Sabine von Löwis with input – among others – by KonKoop associate Sofia Gavrilova (Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography in Leipzig) drew on discussions from the VisLab. It focused on maps as a research object, source or method.
Gwendolyn Sasse (together with Olga Onuch, University of Manchester) presented first results from her interdisciplinary project The Impact of War on Attitudes, Identities and Institutions in the panel: „Recovery, Reform, and Resilience in Ukraine“ (23 July – 16:30). With the help of surverys, this projects traces the effects of trauma on political attitudes in Ukraine.
Our newly established project KoDaNetOst was presented with a poster by Kerstin Bischl during in the Roundtable „Historians without sources? Coping with Challenges of Research on the History of Eastern Europe and the Post-Soviet Space in Times of War“ (22 July – 13:00).
Cindy Wittke organised the round table “Russia’s war and the transformation of world order ‘from below’: disruption, global fragmentation, local agency and the transboundary” (24 July – 9:00) zooming into the consequences of Russia’s full scale invasion.
The team of KonKoop also hosted an informal get together with colleagues working on topics such as de-facto-states, borders, minorities or conflict and cooperation in general to foster the international ties more strongly.
We very much enjoyed all the discussions of our projects, the exchange with old and new friends, and the interest in our activities. See you at the next conference!
