At the Annual Doctoral Colloquium at European University Viadrina, Alyona Bidenko will explore through her presentation “Beyond Propaganda: The Russian Military in Ukraine” dominant narratives and critically examine the role of the Russian military in the ongoing war. The session will engage with questions of representation, information, and strategic communication, situating them within broader debates in international relations and security studies. As part of the colloquium, the presentation will contribute to an interdisciplinary exchange among doctoral researchers, fostering critical discussion and new analytical perspectives.
Alyona Bidenko is a PhD student in History and a Research Associate at the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam. She completed her MA in Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Uppsala University with the support from the Swedish Institute as a recipient of the Visby Programme scholarship. She also studied political science at the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.”
