Members of the KonKoop network from the Chair of International Relations of FSU Jena – Prof. Rafael Biermann and Geza Tasner – participated in the European International Studies Association’s (EISA) 11th Exploratory Symposia in Rapallo, Italy, from October 27-30, 2024. Prof. Rafael Biermann was joined by two colleagues from London and Bologna, Ivica Petrikova and Nicolò Fasola, who are the co-editors of the Patron-Client Relations in World Politics edited volume. This book represents the crystallization of the process of conceptualizing patron-client relations for international relations research, spearheaded by Prof. Biermann.
The editors discussed revised book chapters submitted by the contributors of the volume following a round of feedback after an Authors’ Workshop in Dornburg and Jena this June, which was organized by the Chair and sponsored by the KonKoop research network – an initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. EISA hosted the symposium as part of its annual event, which serves as a platform for research projects in advanced stages.
During the three days, the participants discussed each revised chapter and agreed on many details regarding the volume’s overall structure and narrative arc. There were also major developments in the search for appropriate publishers. As a result of the symposium, the book has moved one step closer to a final draft.
