KonKoop-member Nafisa Mirzojamshedzoda (HNEE) will organise a workshop dedicated to empirical research in armed conflict.
Description:
This workshop explores the methodological and ethical challenges of conducting empirical research in regions affected by armed conflict, with a particular emphasis on environmental issues and participatory approaches. Drawing on case studies from South America, Northeast Africa, Western Europe, and Central Asia, we explore how researchers navigate security risks, shifting field dynamics, and questions of positionality. Special attention is given to participatory research methods that engage local populations not only as informants but as co-producers of knowledge – an approach shown to enhance the legitimacy and sustainability of environmental conflict resolution in contested settings. The event aims to bring together insights on stakeholder collaboration, adaptive field strategies, and interdisciplinary learning to advance robust empirical research in conflict-impacted environments.
The online-event is part of a workshop series of the Research Network Conflict and Cooperation in Eastern Europe. For registrations, please contact Nafisa Mirzojamshedzoda at email: Nafisa.Mirzojamshedzoda@hnee.de.
